Self-catering apartments and ski chalets in Savoie and Haute Savoie (the
majority of resorts) |
The French Alps have long been a popular skiing destination for the British. Majestic scenery, wonderful snow conditions, a long season and reasonable value have all helped to make France a firm winter sports favourite.
It's easy to reach the mountains using the French motorway network, and recent improvements to the road system have meant the long jams once experienced are now a thing of the past. Driving to the Alps via Chambery you can easily reach resorts such as Val d'Isere, Les Arcs and La Plagne during your second day out from the Channel Ports - the more adventurous could do it in one long stint. Or if you choose to fly and hire a car Morzine, Avoriaz and Flaine, are little more than an hour from Geneva Airport.

If you'd prefer to let the train take the strain then why not try Eurostar's Snow Train which leaves London St Pancras on Friday evening, arriving in the French Alps on Saturday morning in time to enjoy the slopes. Through tickets are available from most UK stations.
