   Schladming is a pretty small town set amongst attractive mountain scenery. Together with its neighbouring villages it offers one of the largest ski areas in Austria, well-linked by lifts and ski buses. There are a wide variety of runs to suit all levels, often on well groomed pistes through gorgeous forest scenery. It's a fantastic resort for cross-country skiing. In addition there's toboggan runs, sleigh rides, skating, curling, indoor tennis, squash, a swimming pool and bowling.

Aprs ski is lively in the many bars and cafs in the pedestrianised centre, the narrow streets hung with lights. Traditional beer halls vie for your custom with modern bars and discos.

Access: Schladming is easy to reach on the straight valley road the 320, which is kept well clear of snow. It is only 90km (56 miles) from Salzburg and its airport, mostly by motorway, the A10. The larger international airport at Munich is 200km (125 miles) but again there are good road links. The resort has its own rail station.
