A camping holiday on Lake Maggiore offers the opportunity to explore both Northern Italy and Switzerland, as Camping Valle Romantica is just 2 km from the Swiss border. The site is about 4 km from the lake and shares a private beach with another site belonging to the same Swiss owner. In addition the site has a smallish but pretty swimming pool, and there's plenty of shade.
Lake Maggiore has a full range of water-based activities for you to enjoy, ranging from wind-surfing, canoeing, and of course swimming. Pleasure boats ply the lake, making this an easy and relaxing way to get around. A few km to the north, in Switzerland, is the attractive town of Locarno, with its narrow old streets attracting both Germans from the north, and Italians from the south. On the Italian part of Lake Maggiore is Stresa, where some beautiful Belle Epoque villas lend this still lively resort a faded charm. Be sure to take a boat trip to see at least one of the three Boromean Islands. Isola Bella and Isola Madre both enjoy a romantic setting and botanical gardens, while Isola dei Pescatori is, of course, a fishing village in the middle of the lake.
