The Ile d'Olron and the Ile de Re are popular destinations for French holiday makers and a camping holiday here offers a real experience of French holiday life. Both the islands are great for walking and cycling, as well as the more obvious beach based activities.
The Ile d'Olron is the bigger island, permanently joined to the mainland by a bridge, and so offers many possibilities for exploring its pine forests and visiting the small fishing villages, as well as trying out the swimming at any number of golden sand beaches. Although traffic can be busy there are many kms of off-road cycle tracks to help you find the hidden delights of the island.
Il de R is not strictly an island anymore as there is a toll bridge connection to the mainland. Here again, the main attraction is likely to be the miles of golden sand on beaches safe for swimming, and the excellent cycle paths around the island. Camping Interlude is a superb site with pools, jacuzzi and a gym amongst it other amenities. Camping Les Ilates is a quieter site, offering some peace and tranquillity even at the height of the season.
