Camping holidays in the Gironde give a real flavour of Western France. The mighty Gironde flows into the Atlantic Ocean to the north of the city of Bordeaux. The three campsites offered (two shared between Eurocamp and Keycamp, the other from Keycamp), are all on the northern side of the Gironde estuary, all close to the attractive holiday resort of Royan.
Eurocamp campsites in the Gironde: |
Sequoia Parc, is close to the Ile d'Olron, a very popular holiday destination for the French, and well worth a visit. This campsite may be 8 km from the beach but with a fantastic pool complex this isn't really a problem, especially with the great facilities on offer at this parc.
From this area you can take a ferry across the mouth of the Gironde estuary and visit the vineyards of Bordeaux, or it's a short drive north to the historic and attractive port city of La Rochelle.
Flights are available to La Rochelle or Bordeaux, where you can hire a car at very competitive prices. If you drive it's about 5 and a half hours from Caen using Brittany Ferries, not including stops, or about 7 hours from Calais. For details of all the ferry crossings click here.
