France has a superb road network. The country has an area roughly twice that of Britain but with only slightly more people, so, except in a few large cities and at peak holiday weekends, traffic is rarely a problem. If you're in a hurry take the excellent autoroutes which can easily speed you from one side of France to the other in a long day.
