Chambéry is often called the Gateway to the Alps. It is the last large town before the ski resorts, and sits at the junctions of the A41 and A43 Autoroutes, the two main motorways to the mountains. From here you can head via Grenoble to the resorts of the Southern Alps, via Annecy to the North Western Alps or via Albertville to Aime, Tignes and the Isere valley.
